Mailbag Monday
30. June 2008 by Lisa.
Once again it’s time for us to stuff our mailboxes full of freebies! If you don’t already have a secondary email (junk email), you might want to establish one just in case you get hit with 3,000 emails because you’re wanting these little extras. Yes, you need to sign up for all these freebies, but presents in the mail are sweet! I can’t vouch for any of these deals, but I’m taking advantage of them all.
There are two great sites I visit to get these deals. They have a ton of samples to sign up for. However, many of them require you to endure extensive surveys or a purchase (ever so small, but still…a purchase). Since I use a junk email account I don’t want coupons emailed to me. The sample freebies I list will always have easy forms to fill out (maybe a short list of questions I think are appropriate), will not have purchase requirements attached, and will come to your mailbox. I really try to weed out, best I can, offers that require too much personal information, extensive questions, junk offers, etc. I’ll do the work for you if you want to take advantage of these wonderful little freebies.
Here we go!
Hyland’s Leg Cramps
Stride gum
Store sampler pack
Febreeze
Playtex Sport Tampons
Pledge
Cutting board
Snuggle fabric softener
Sun Crystals sweetener
John Frieda Frizz-Ease
If this is your first time to participate in Mailbag Monday, you might want to look at previous Mailbag Monday posts and take advantage of all 74 freebies to date.

FREE Diapers at Walgreens This Week!
30. June 2008 by Lisa.
Walgreens diapers (jumbo packs) are $5.99 this week, but read here to see how you can get them for free! I have no little ones, so I won’t be confirming this, but WOW - what a deal! (Thanks, Baby Cheapskate)

Free Starbucks Iced Brewed Coffee - in This Week’s Paper
28. June 2008 by Lisa.
I just got my 10 Sunday papers. My coupon wasn’t in one of the actual coupon inserts. It was a single page, brown ad in the baggie that all the inserts are stuffed into. Just open the baggie and dig through the contents to find it. I got 10! Yummy coffee, but yucky prices. Free is extra yummy.
There’s also a free-floating pink ad flier for 50c off 6 ct. Bounty and 50c off 6ct. Charmin.

Round-Up Saturday
28. June 2008 by Lisa.
I enjoy passing on good frugal reads. Hope you find something of interest today. I know there are only 2, but I haven’t had much time to peruse my frugal friends’ blogs.
Simple Mom wrote a brief article about making nutritious, simple baby food from scratch . It’s easy and frugal. Anyone can do it and it doesn’t take much time.
I love this article from Paid Twice. It’s about strategies to fight the take-out urge. I am the queen of forgetting to defrost the meat for dinner and not realizing it until 6pm. Oops. Now what? There have been several nights of sandwiches or cereal because I don’t want to go out (well, actually I do, but I also want to practice frugality). These suggestions beat cold cereal.
That’s it for link love this week.

Liz Claiborne 75% Off - Through 7/3
28. June 2008 by Lisa.
Right now you can save up to 75% off the original price at Liz Claiborne; just put an already-reduced item into your cart, and it’ll be reduced by an additional 25%.
The sale lasts through July 3rd, 2008, but from my browsing I can see that sizes and colors are already fairly limited, so shop early for the best selection.
I love that store, but it’s usually out of my range financially. (Thanks, Mir)

$1 Flip Flops at Old Navy - Saturday 6/28 Only
27. June 2008 by Lisa.
Yes, I’ve heard they’re bad for my feet, but I just can’t resist! Shoes are a necessary evil to me, and I appreciate any slip-ons/offs I can get, especially if I only have to pay $1. They also make cute gifts or party favors. Anyone going to Mexico on a mission trip this summer might be collecting these to hand out to appreciative folks. Cute, comfy and cheap.

Walgreen’s $5 off $20 Coupon - Friday 6/27 Only
27. June 2008 by Lisa.
Walgreens has a printable $5/$20 coupon available that is good Friday, 6/27, only. Like last time, the terms and conditions state that your subtotal must include all other discounts and coupons to qualify. So after all of your manufacturer coupons and any other Walgreens store coupons, your subtotal must be $20 or greater to use the coupon. However . . .
It has been confirmed that you can use this coupon to purchase stamps!!! Who would have guessed? Yes, this was verified directly with corporate. Please come back and leave a comment if you actually try this in store, as I have not tried it yet myself. (Thanks, Tara)

Cook Bacon in the Oven - No Mess!
27. June 2008 by Lisa.
Am I the last person in the world to learn about this? We don’t eat a lot of bacon at our house - maybe 4x/year, but when I cook it, I hate the splattering mess it leaves all over half my kitchen. Love the smell, hate the mess.
I’ve got a new strategy now that a friend clued me in about how to cook it. Here is what I now do. Place the strips on a broiler pan and line the bottom part of the pan with foil (easy clean up). Preheat to 400 and bake for:
10-15 minutes for thin cut
15-17 minutes for crispy
*add 4-6 minutes to above time if you have thick slices
Slices won’t look firm and crispy until after they cool.
Drain on paper towels. To keep bacon warm, drop the oven to 150-200 and put cooked bacon on an oven safe plate and pop it in.
Frugal tip: Reserve your bacon grease for other cooking. Just pour it into a mug and keep in the refrig.
Freeze cooled bacon in baggies. To reheat put 2 slices in the microwave for 30 seconds.

My Mid-Week Trip to Walmart
26. June 2008 by Lisa.
I didn’t have any double/triple coupons to deal with for my mid-week grocery trip, so I took all my store ads and coupons to Walmart. I usually do this when I have no coupons to double or triple because Walmart accepts all competitor sale ad prices (and they don’t double/triple coupons). That means one-stop shopping for me today. Much more convenient.
My Tom Thumb seems to keep having these grand re-opening sales almost every week. This week we get 80% lean ground beef for 99c/lb., min. 5 lbs., max. 20 lbs. Walmart matched it no problem. I prefer the 90% lean, but no one beats this price.
I also took my Sprouts ad in and got nectarines 99c/lb., zucchini & squash 88c/lb. and strawberries 4 lbs./$5.
Just a reminder that if you don’t have coupons to double/triple this week, you can’t beat one-stop shopping at Walmart. You just have to bring along all your ads. Still, it saves time. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a one-stop shopping trip. I’m fortunate to have all my grocery stores, CVS, Walgreens and Walmart all on the same street, and near my home.
It was just a mid-week trip to mostly restock on fruits and veggies. Great to have Walmart as my one stop store.
